What to Expect From the Siding Installation Process
Perhaps you’ve noticed that your home just doesn’t look as good as it used to. It looks faded and worn, and you realize that your siding is to blame. If your siding is 20 years old or older, it might be time to replace it.
You probably know that siding installation is not typically a do-it-yourself kind of job. So that means it’s time to call in a professional siding contractor. But once you find a contractor, what can you expect from the siding installation process? Here are some of the basic steps your project will go through:
Consultation
Before anything is ordered, the contractor should come to your home to inspect your current siding, take measurements, and talk with you. This conversation is your chance to tell them about your style preferences and budget. Then, with all the information in hand, the contractor should walk you through your siding material, style, and color options. Once you have everything picked out, your contractor can order the required materials.
Siding Installation
When the materials have arrived, the contractor’s crew can get to work. The first step is to remove the old siding. Unless you want to get stuck with the old siding lying around, be sure to ask if your contractor disposes of the old siding after removal.
Next, the crew will prep the building for the new siding installation. This means fixing any damage found during the initial inspection, as well as covering the walls with board foam and prepping the window and door frames. Once everything is ready, the installation of your chosen siding can begin.
Every siding project is different. The size and shape of your house, the siding material you choose, and the size of the work crew can all factor into the length of the project. However, most siding projects should take anywhere from one to two weeks.
